Annandale pharmacist recognized for altruistic, out-of-hours delivery of vaccines to people in need

As more people prepare for COVID-19 booster shots, there are still some who simply do not have access to vaccines. Whether they are disabled or simply do not have transportation, a local pharmacist is doing all they can to tackle inaccessibility in their community.

His name is Tony Nguyen and he is a pharmacist in a Safeway in Annandale. But before his shift begins, Nguyen personally delivers prescriptions and vaccines to his patients who cannot make it to the pharmacy.

Nguyen was nominated for the Above and Beyond award from Single Care’s “Best of the Best Pharmacy Awards”.

He was nationally recognized for going the extra mile. Only 10 pharmacists are recognized each year. Nguyen tells 7News that he is the one who feels blessed.

“I know they like it a lot. I feel happy to do it, ”he said. It’s just… it’s a good feeling to help someone in need. Sometimes you see the smile, the joy, the relief of receiving your medication. It’s gratifying, ”Nguyen said.

Nguyen actually has his doctorate in chemistry, but he was put on the waitlist for medical school and decided he didn’t want that lifestyle, so what was the closest thing to the chemistry? Pharmacy. And all of his patients couldn’t be more grateful.
